Brewing for the Greater Good, February 21st

Brewing for the Greater Good, February 21st

Join us for "Brewing for the Greater Good," A Beer Tasting event to benefit the Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard, Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 4-6pm, downstairs at From the Boot, sponsored by Forest & Main Brewing Company, God on Tap, and Upper Dublin Lutheran Church.

One of our goals at God on Tap is to extend care and support to our local community. This fall we collected Halloween costumes for kids as well as non-perishable food items. We are excited to announce that next month we are partnering with Forest & Main Brewing Company to put on a fundraiser to benefit the Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard. Dan Endicott, co-owner of F&M will lead a beer tasting program, where we will sample F&M beers while Dan describes the beers and the brewing process. Each person will get a commemorate sample glass to take home, and there will be food from From the Boot. All proceeds go to the Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard.

It's going to be a great event. Tickets are $40, which covers your beer, the program, food, the glass, and even gets you a small discount at F&M after the event. Tickets are available for purchase online at our Eventbrite page. Please purchase tickets in advance and then print and bring your ticket the day of the event. Here's all the information. Please help spread the word!

Christmas, the Most Wonderful—and Sometimes Challenging—Time of the Year

Christmas, the Most Wonderful—and Sometimes Challenging—Time of the Year

Christmas is indeed a wonderful time of year. For many, and I'd have to include myself, it is their favorite time of the year—with special holiday traditions, parties, music, and  time spent with family and friends. For some people, and for each of us, I think, at different times in our lives, the Christmas season can be a challenging time—a reminder of lost loved ones, a time where changes in life circumstances or relationships are felt more acutely. Sometimes in the rush of the season we don't get a chance to reflect on the complexities of the season for ourselves or others. The promise of Christmas is that God comes to us in our joy, in our sorrow, in the fullness and complexity of our humanity in the birth of Jesus in a lowly manger in Bethlehem. No matter where we find ourselves in this holiday season, that's where God comes to meet us. That's what we'll take up at our next God on Tap.

So, join us on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:30-9:00pm upstairs at Forest & Main Brewing Company as we reflect together on the wonder and the challenges that we experience during the holiday season. See you there!

Join us for Beer and Carols on December 10th

Join us for Beer and Carols on December 10th

It was days before Christmas when all through the bar, people were singing and laughing, some came from afar.

They gathered to celebrate the birth of God's Son. They just wouldn't stop until each carol was sung.

They photoboothed, and purchased Christmas necklaces with glee, knowing that MaGerk's gives 15% of our tally to charity.

Heather will play her keyboard with care, and we'll sing as joyfully and as loud as we dare.

Invite family and friends to come sing in the season. It's hard to imagine a better reason.

Finally, when we depart, the bar out of sight, we'll cheer "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Join us at MaGerk's in Fort Washington on Wednesday, December 10th from 7-9pm as we sing in the season at our third annual Beer and Carols! Everyone is welcome! Merry Christmas!

Encounters with Abundance

Encounters with Abundance

Join us for our next God on Tap, Tuesday, November 18th at 7:30pm, upstairs at Forest & Main. Our theme will be Encounters with Abundance.

As we draw closer to Thanksgiving,  thoughts invariably turn to giving thanks for the many gifts in our lives. I had a pretty cool experience of that this past week at the conference I'm attending. The speaker invited us to share with the people sitting at our table our encounters with abundance—moments when we have been surprised, delighted, or touched by abundance in our lives. Some people at our table shared about how they experienced that abundance in the kind and generous actions of others, some shared "aha!" moments when they realized abundance goes far beyond how much we have in our bank accounts. At the end of our sharing, we all felt deeply grateful for the goodness and abundance in our lives.

So, that's our kickoff question for Tuesday night. Where have you encountered abundance in your life? I think it will help us reflect on and practice the gratitude this season invites.

Hope to see you Tuesday!

Third Places and Sacred Spaces

Third Places and Sacred Spaces

Join us for our next God on Tap, Tuesday, October 28th at 7:30pm. Our topic will be Third Places and Sacred Spaces and our special guest will be Dan Endicott, co-owner of Forest & Main Brewing Company.

We are going to be talking about the unique role community hubs like Forest & Main play in our community, and the ways in which they can even function (as they have for us at God on Tap many times) as sacred space.

I’ve had the chance to talk with Dan on a few occasions about the story of Forest & Main—what they envisioned as they started out and what they have learned along the way. I think this conversation will give us a better appreciation for this place we’ve been gathering over the last two years, and our own God on Tap experience.

Before we get together, it might be helpful to describe what we mean by “third place” and “sacred space.”
